THE ROAD TO DISTRIBUTION
a filmmaker's blog
APRIL 14, 2009
Well, I just re-vamped the website and I'm excited to get it up and running just in time before I head out to Eugene, Oregon for the Disorient Asian American Film Festival at Bijou Arts Cinemas on Sunday, April 19th. If you know anyone in Eugene, please send them our way! I'm also knee-deep in publicity work- DIY publicity in the film festival circuit means little sleep and little exercise. I'm starting to eat like I did when I was in front of the computer editing all day, although instead of In & Out it's become Quizno's Delivery! Despite my bitching and complaining, I'm very excited to head up north to one of my favorite states- Oregon. The land of "think globally, act locally," where I'll be dining at one of my favorite chef's restaurant, Naomi Pomeroy, who used to head "Family Supper" in Portland where you sat at long benches with strangers eating the most divine three course meal for thirty-five bucks. She has a new restaurant called "Beast" now and it's right near our favorite Portland hotel, The Kennedy School, which is the coolest elementary school turned brewery/hotel in the Pacific Northwest. Then I think we'll take a trip to the Portland Rose Garden where they have thousands upon thousands of roses and an amazing view of Mt. Hood. Then I'll GPS my way over to downtown Portland where I'll have to make a stop at Powell's Bookstore which is the coolest bookstore I've ever been to and literally the size of a city block.
And then we'll head out to Eugene to paper the town with our posters, uh...the day before the screening. Yes, I guess you could say I'm there to travel and eat as well as promote the film. I've never been to Eugene so I'm excited because I hear it's a college hippie town. And even though I'm like Maxine in the sense that I'm not a big fan of tye-dye, I do like a good Farmer's Market and apparently they have a great one on Saturdays.
All of this is a great mini-vacay before I come back to L.A. and do a cram session to get ready for the L.A. Asian American Film Festival. This is a hectic month and it's also my birthday this weekend so I guess you could say I'm excited and overwhelmed at the same time. But I wouldn't trade it for anything, and this is what you really live for as a filmmaker...
the opportunity to meet your audience and get your project out there! After I get some rest I'll make sure to check back in and let you know how it all went. Thanks for tuning in and hope to see you at a film festival!
